The Analyst’s Companion free BETA is now open

You can sign up to try The Analyst’s Companion BETA now if you are interested but there are three important caveats:
- You will need to have an OpenAI “gpt-4” API key which, once you have a normal OpenAI API key you can request here: https://openai.com/waitlist/gpt-4-api
- You will need to give us a little time to add your email address to the Google Oauth API list since we are still in testing on the product (this shouldn’t take much more than an hour depending on when you make the request)the
- We are only opening up the free product which only allows you to see what the application can do with pre-formed questions. It’s likely that I will bump helpful testers up to the version that allows you to create your own questions for the system to answer … but that will be on a case-by-case basis.
The reason for the “gpt-4” API key requirement — a requirement that will get in the way of a lot of potential users, unfortunately — is that it turns out that the earlier versions of “gpt” (e.g., “gpt-3.5-turbo”) really are not very good at doing the work the Companion needs it to do. This, however, is encouraging, because I sort of expect that “gpt-5” will be really, really good at this type of work!
If you have a “gpt-4” OpenAI API key and are okay with the slower process you are welcome to sign up now:
I am happy to answer any questions you might have.
