Podcast #053: Customer Data Platforms…and Some Podcast News!
The start of 2017 marks the start of my third year co-hosting The Digital Analytics Power Hour podcast. Like many things in my career, it started as something of a lark-ish experiment, it turned out to be something I really enjoyed AND something that required more time and effort than I’d predicted. Michael Helbling and I agreed pretty early on that we wanted to aim for a steady cadence of continuous improvement, which has pushed us to push ourselves and try a number of new things behind the scenes over the last two years.
The two biggest listener-facing changes, though, rolled out this year:
- We’ve launched analyticshour.io as a website for the show. That’s given us some content flexibility, and, hopefully, is a springboard for us to increase our listenership.
- We’ve started producing transcripts for each episode, so, if you hear something you want to share or review, you can quickly search/scan the transcript to find a timestamp for when that material was covered. (We actually started producing transcripts with episode #051: The 1-Person Digital Analytics Team with Moe Kiss.)
Customer Data Platforms with Todd Belcher
Our first episode of 2017 was with Todd Belcher from BlueConic. Michael and I were only passingly familiar with customer data platforms (CDP), and we had a lot of questions about what they actually are, as well as where they fit in the marketing technology landscape. As it turned out, I have a customer who is actually using a CDP (not BlueConic). And, during the course of the recording, Michael got so excited that he implemented BlueConic on analyticshour.io while we were recording. Of course, we hadn’t actually announced the site’s launch at the time, so there were no visitors to actually generate data for us to play with, but it was a fun episode nonetheless!
